Keratosis Pilaris

Hey everyone!
So I can say that I've survived my first week of graduate school. Even though I am in over my head and pretty overwhelmed I am exciting that I have finally started my program. I truly haven't had anytime to just sit back and relax since school has started. I have spent almost every night reading and reviewing material from my undergrad for class. I super excited because next week we will be getting our clients and we finally get to start planning our first therapy session! This is what I'll be doing for the rest of my life... how exciting!!

Now onto the point of this blog...

I, like many others suffer from Keratosis Pilaris which is also known as "chicken skin". You know those red and white bumps that people usually have on their arms. I always been self-conscious about my skin especially since I have KP. People would always ask me if I was cold because they thought my KP were goose bumps. I always wear a cardigan or something to cover up my arms because I am that self-conscious about it... I have it pretty bad. Throughout the years I have been in search of a way to help clear up my KP.... I've ever gone to the doctors about it. The doctor prescribed me some lotion and that didn't help too much. I tried the Eucerin Intensive lotion and though it seemed to help a little I really didn't like the consistency of it. My skin felt like of sticky after application. I was tempted to try the scrub and lotion by KP derma doctor but I was completely turned off by the price. I believe it's $36 for the lotion and $44 for the scrub. Now I've heard good things about these products but I know I would be using these products daily and was not wiling to spend $80 on products.

I was at the mall one day and happened to walk pass Lush. Now I've watched many Lush haul videos and have heard all of the raves so I decided to check it out. When I went in I was helped by the most knowledgeable sales associate and she was extremely helpful. I explained to her how I have been on a search in hopes to help my KP and she recommended two products to me.

First was the Sugar Scrub

This sugar scrub contains fennel oil and ginger rhizome. This scrub also contains lavender which is suppose to have a balancing effect and encourage healthier skin. It also smells fantastic. She explained to me that with KP it is important to use a scrub a couple of times a week. This will helped to get rid of the "white bumps" associated with KP. This scrub retails for about $4.95 for a 3.5 oz. The 3.5 oz goes a long way. I bought mine in July and I still have half of it left. What I do is I break off small pieces and put that into one of those travel size soap containers and stick it in the shower. I don't take the whole thing into the shower because that would result in a lot of wasted product. I use this scrub 3-4 times a week.

The second product she recommended to me was the Buffy Bar

This bar contains ground rice and shea butter. It's suppose to not only exfoliate but to also leave your skin feeling moisturized. After you rinse off the ground rice partials on your skin in the shower you skin will feel moisturized. I have to admit that it fees kind of funny at first because you will feel like you didn't rinse everything off but once you step out of the shower your skin will feel AMAZING. I would recommend this product to even people who don't have KP. Now this bar is a bit pricey... its $22 for the 7 oz and $12 for the 3.3 oz. I bought the 3.3 oz in July and still have a whole bunch of product left. (Granted my boyfriend used my buffy bar in the shower when I first got it and thought it was just a regular soap bar and let's just say he used up a lot lol) But this bar is well worth the money. You will feel like you don't even need to moisturize like you would normally would after a shower.

Now I wish I had taken a before picture but I was kind of skeptical about this products at first. I have tried a lot of things and nothing seemed to really clear up my KP like it said it would.... that was until these two products. I alternate between these products during the week. And I have to truly say I am SO UNBELIEVABLY SATISFIED with these two products. Words can't even explain how thankful I am for these two things!! I have been on the search for the perfect product and I think my search has finally ended. If you have KP definitely try these two things out... it will be worth your time and money! Let me know if there have been any products that have worked for your KP or if you have tried out these products. Until next time! Have a wonderful day, evening, whatever it is wherever you are!

All Moved In

Hey everyone!!

So I'm officially moved to the other side of the state and I FINALLY have internet!! Thank goodness. Up until this point I have just been using the guest wireless and while it is free I was limited to what sites I could go to and where I could access the wifi in my apartment. The wireless network blocked personal blogs sites so I'm a little behind on my blog reading.

I have a couple days until my orientation for school. I cannot believe I will be starting my graduate school journey next week. It will be weird to be on a semester system because I am so used to being on a quarter system but I'm ready (and of course nervous) about getting this chapter of my life started. So much to do before school starts... I have so many forms to sign and paperwork to get taken care of. Since I will be in contact with clients/patients I have a lot of documentation to complete. I cannot believe that I will be given my own patient to work with in a matter of a week. Of course I'll be under the supervision of one of my professors!

My last post was on the UDPP and I have to say that I absolutely love it! It's been hot over here lately and I'll admit it... a bit sweaty but when I wear this my eyeshadow does not budge at all! It makes me so happy. I also wore this recently when going out and it lasted all through the night of dancing. I can't believe that I've waited this long to purchase it. I also love the texture of this product. I was at a local target and saw the e.l.f dollar eyeshadow primer that I have seen from some videos on youtube and decided I should try it out. It does it's job but it doesn't give your eyeshadow the staying power like UDPP. If you are on a tight budget then I would definitely recommend this but the amount of product that you're getting seems so little. I think UDPP runs for about $18 but I would have to say that it's definitely worth the money. I have also tried e.l.f's studioline primer and though it worked, my eyeshadow still creased a little.

I made the 5 hour drive back home last weekend to attend a concert to see JR Aquino and Passion.... just to name a few of the artists who performed. That 5 hour drive was well worth it to see these awesome youtube stars perform. Their voices are even more amazing in person. But anyway... I'm just trying to get back settled into my apartment. In the next couple of days I will be doing a blogpost on keratosis pilaris (better known as chicken skin) and what I did to help get rid of mine and some ramblings on a couple of products that I'm loving lately.

For now I just wanted to give you a little peek into my new apartment! Enjoy! =)
